How the bloody fuck are these things so quick? I have no idea what engine was in it, just that the Chevy dealership I work for has a couple 2015 Silverados used as loaners. I was delivering one to a customer as per my job assisting with the valet service and I had to merge onto a highway. I mashed the ‘go’ pedal down expecting lethargic TruckPower and a wave of low-geared slow-but-steady torque and was instead violently slammed back into my seat as the back of the truck squirmed around a bit, wanting badly to break loose and become in front. It probably wasn’t all that fast, but in something that big I felt like a goddamn rocket up that on-ramp, quickly hitting the 70mph speed limit and flawlessly merging with traffic.

Sound system was pretty good, too.

Trucks haven’t been slow for a bit now. I drove a ‘13 Silverado 5.3 today, and it sprinted pretty well, even with stupid cheap bro wheels and tires on it.

It comes in the form of gobs of torque in the low and mid RPM range. I drove one of the v6 turbo (ecoboost >_>) aluminum-body F-150s this summer, and it’ll hit 60 faster than a Fiesta or Focus ST.

It’s scary when you’re already doing 70 and mash the go-pedal and suddenly start racing towards triple digits.

I was caught off guard by a 2014 Escape with the 2.0L ecoboost.

leaving my house, needed to get onto a road with a 40mph limit. stomped on it expecting old school turbo (like our old saab) and the car to do absolutely nothing thanks to big car, small turbo engine.

What. The. FUCK. I was NOT expecting it to get on boost so fast and just freight train away from me. It actually pushed me back into the seat because I wasnt expecting it. took my foot off the skinny pedal and heard a BOV that had absolutely NO business being a fucking escape.

A crew cab Silverado 5.3 can hit 60 in the mid 6-second range. Which I’m assuming is the engine the truck had. A 6.2 only takes 5.5 seconds. Trucks are stupid fast now.

I just drove an ecoboost F-150 today. You don’t even notice it’s a turbo, it’s just got stupid power all over the place.

I just read a long term update on a yukon denali from C&D and after break in they got a 0-60 of...wait for it...5.9 seconds. dayum, trucks are fast now.

TORQUE

Power: 420 hp @ 5600 rpm
Torque: 460 lb-ft @ 4100 rpm

0-60 in 5.2

Thats faster than a miata, or a brz, or an early nsx, or an ‘07 S6 or a 90’s M3, an s2000, or a normal rx7.

What an amazing time to be alive.

Dude yes the blowoff valve on the 2.0 EB is so prominent for a motor that gets dropped into crossovers and sedans. Little bit of Focus ST DNA getting thrown in maybe.

Jesus Christ. So it’s pretty much the fastest car I’ve driven that wasn’t a Corvette, Camaro, or Mustang. What in the shit.

Even the diesels are fast. That’s a big change from the 90s.

I mean when you’re pushing 450hp and 900ft-lb you’re not gonna be slow even if you weigh 7k lbs

I had one of those ecoboost f-150s (crew cab 4x4 in that bright blue, I think it was an FX4) turn left in front of me into oncoming the other day - 55mph 2 lane with center turn lane and he misjudged the close rate. Just as I was on top of him he nailed the throttle to get all the way across, lost it on the damp pavement and it spun around 180 quite nicely. He ended up pointing the opposite direction in the center turn lane and everybody was perfectly fine. That little turbo 3.5 is easily torquey enough to kick that big truck completely sideways in a heartbeat.

Try a suburban with the 6.0. Is worryingly rapid

Now that I think about it, my uncle used to have a 2003 Ram 1500 with a Hemi 5.7, and i think that made about 350 HP 370 tq? He also had long tubes into a side pipe exhaust that exited through the rear quarter panel with a chrome bezel around the cutout, like you would see on a speedboat. Perfect example of minimalist design. Quick, too.

A friend of mine has a new Sierra Denali. I was riding along and he floored it on the highway to show me what it could do.

Just wow.

Also, that thing was as quiet, comfortable, and smooth as an old Cadillac.

Still depends on the gearing and mass... The diesel sixes and V8s in Class 4 and higher trucks can put out more power than the HD pickups out there, but they are slower due to gearing and mass.

I made that mistake one. “Oh, it’s a huge-ass SUV. It won’t be that fast.” so I floored it at 40mph so I could catch up to the 70mph traffic. Proceeded to roast the tires. I was stunned.

You felt the combination of strong v8 and low gearing in the axle. While it will run out of breath before you hit 150, the torque gets it up to speed fast.

Trucks really are ridiculous these days. Drove a pretty basic F-150 with the Ecoboost last year and I was floored (get it?) by the acceleration. Seriously, the thing pinned me back in my seat harder than my FoST could.

They’re god damned sports cars.

I know you work for GM, but this reminds me of the first time I drove a 6.7 Powerstroke Super Duty when I stated for Ford. 440 HP and 860 Ft/lbs of torque is nothing to sneeze at, especially in a truck the size of a house.

I drove one of those with some high-end aftermarket suspension. Stupid fun. The amount of pitch and dive was hilarious and it handled launching it off of a railroad crossing without a bump.
